Overview: The SRO Technical Department Internship offers upper-class STEM students a gateway into motorsports, with the goal of helping students get their foot in the door to this exciting industry. Now in its ninth year, the program rotates interns through two primary roles: Technical Inspector and Tire Allocation Inspector. Interns gain hands-on experience, supporting crucial aspects of race operations, and ensuring a safe, fair, and exciting event. This internship uses local students only. Season long internships are not available at this time.

  • April 11th – 13th: Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach - Long Beach, CA
  • April 25th – 27th: Circuit of The Americas - Austin, TX
  • May 16th – 18th: Sebring International Raceway - Sebring, FL
  • July 18th – 20th: VIRginia International Raceway - Alton, VA
  • August 15th – 17th: Road America - Elkhart Lake, WI
  • September 5th – 7th: Barber Motorsports Park - Birmingham, AL
  • October 16th – 19th: Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Indianapolis, IN
Responsibilities:
  • Scrutineering/Technical Inspection: Verify tire pressures, measure camber, inspect weight, ride height, and mechanical components, and assist with miscellaneous tasks like measuring body and suspension dimensions. Training on specific tools, such as the laser ride height tool, is provided.
  • Pirelli Tire Allocation Verification: Scan and verify competitor tires against Pirelli’s database, ensuring correct tire usage.
Details:
  • Training manuals provided three weeks prior.
  • Lunch, snacks, and drinks offered; fuel and food expenses reimbursed (excluding alcohol).
  • Interns are responsible for transportation and must cover their own lodging and travel expenses.
Requirements:
  • Black closed-toe shoes and long black pants required (no shorts or sandals).
  • Professional behavior expected.
