GMG Racing begins another season of multi-tiered SRO America competition this weekend at Sonoma Raceway where four GMG Racing entries across four classes in three different racing series compete in the season-opening race weekend. The GMG Racing quartet includes full-season efforts in the featured SRO GT World Challenge America powered by AWS and the SRO GT America powered by AWS series as well as two entries in the inaugural race weekend of the debuting SRO McLaren Trophy America series. All competing series this weekend at Sonoma contest twin Saturday and Sunday races on the 2.52 Sonoma "Wine Country" road course.

Leading GMG Racing's SRO America effort again in 2025 is longtime team driver Kyle Washington who follows up 2024's winning season with his second-straight full-season campaign with co-driver Tom Sargent in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R. Washington and Sargent compete in the GT World Challenge Pro-Am class and scored their first win in that category last year at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR).

Washington also returns to the single-driver GT America sprint race championship at the wheel of a sister No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R the top-tier SRO3 class for GT3 specification cars.

"Once again, I am really excited, along with everybody at GMG Racing, to be back in SRO America competition for my 31st year," said GMG Racing Founder and Principal James Sofronas. "I am proud of the two-car entry for Kyle Washington as he continues to be fully committed to the Porsche platform in SRO, particularly at the top-tier GT3 level."

Sofronas and another veteran GMG Racing teammate join Washington in select GT America sprint races this season. CJ Moses will compete in as many races as his busy schedule allows in the GT2 class in his No.58 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2. Sofronas in turn is confirmed for next month's 50th Running of the Grand Prix of Long Beach in his No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO2, and possibly more races this season. Sofronas drove the Audi to his most recent SRO race win last August at Road America.

"We are looking forward to having CJ Moses back in the GT2 class once again," Sofronas said. "I will also make a few cameo appearances in my Audi in GT America."

Back to this weekend's season opener, GMG Racing also dives into the new McLaren Trophy America championship this year with two full-season entries debuting at Sonoma. Andrew Chinnici and his pro-driver teammate John Capestro-Dubets compete in the Pro-Am class in the No. 4 McLaren Artura while Sofronas himself has been assigned to the Am-class for a single-driver effort in the No. 14 McLaren Artura Trophy EVO.

"We are also supporting this weekend a two-car effort in the new McLaren Trophy America series that is set for the season," Sofronas said. "We have a total of five cars being delivered over the next six months. We are excited about this opportunity with the McLaren brand and the great partnership with McLaren Newport Beach."

Chinnici fills in this weekend for the No. 4's primary full-season driver this season, Kevin King, who will miss the Sonoma opener to tend to a personal matter.

"All of this stems from driver development and customer interaction at The Thermal Club, where we opened up GMG Racing's new headquarters operation late last year," Sofronas said. "That is where the McLaren program has continued to grow and Kyle has more driver development experience at Thermal than any other tracks combined. As usual, we have been very busy over the winter developing new customers and racing programs. It all takes off with our Porsche and McLaren Trophy programs this weekend at Sonoma."

The McLarens arrived in GMG Racing's Thermal shop just a week ago.

"Neither car has turned a wheel," Sofronas said. "They were both delivered last week, and we had to convert them to Trophy packages, which is basically a three-day process. The only activity with the car has been loading them on the trailer, but we are really looking forward to shaking them down in testing Thursday. I always have faith in the GMG squad to get the cars prepared to the highest level possible."

Unofficial test sessions through Thursday will be followed by a day of official practice sessions Friday. Qualifying Saturday morning for all series sets the stage for the opening races of the weekend that afternoon. The first ever McLaren Trophy America race gets thing started with a 50-minute sprint at 12:05 p.m. PDT. The 40-minute GT America opener follows at 1:10 p.m. PDT, with the season's first GT World Challenge America 90-minute race set to go green at 3:15 p.m. PDT.

Sunday's second and final rounds begin with GT America at 9:25 a.m. PDT and will be followed by McLaren Trophy at 10:25 a.m. PDT and the GT World Challenge America weekend finale at 3 p.m. PDT.
